Ecological construction

The steel house to be completed for the housing fair is a breakthrough in recyclability and steel construction. Each area is taken into account from construction to demolition. The project will also show how the circular economy and low carbon can be increased in construction with high quality.

A future house will be completed in the Lohja housing fair area by the lake, the carbon footprint and carbon handprint of which have been calculated in accordance with the planned Decree of the Ministry of the Environment.

Half of the earth's raw materials are used for construction every year, so we need to move quickly to the circular economy. It seems that recycling steel and other parts will bring quite great climate benefits. It is the responsibility of the designer to look beyond the life of the building, all the way to demolition," Matti Kuittinen emphasises.

Why is the future of ecological construction in steel?

  • 95% recyclable

  • Conversion flexibility of buildings and structures

  • Maintenance of façades

  • Dismantlability

  • Reusability

  • Fireproof

  • Lightweight and ergonomic material

  • Soundproofing

The climate is warming and our planet's resources are diminishing year by year, so the potential of recyclable materials should also be placed under magnifying glass in construction. We studied a number of recyclable innovations throughout the construction process and after. At the end of the project, we will make an open list of how far we got into the circular economy with the current construction products.
